COMPETITION

FRBJJ is a proud mixed martial arts studio in the Altamonte Springs area. Founded by black belt instructor Fabin Rosa, our team can teach many martial arts, including MMA, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, self-defense techniques, and more. We offer classes for all ages and experiences, and we even have competitive Jiu-Jitsu options for those ready to take their Jiu-Jitsu skills to the next level!

Competitions are available to men, women, and children. As a team, we often attend BJJ tournaments and have a long history of success. Competing is not required as a condition of membership, and many Brazilian Jiu-Jitu practitioners only train at academies. However, if you decide to test your abilities in tournaments, it is wise to know the rules associated with each one.

Each BJJ tournament is associated with a competition circuit. The three most relevant competition circuits for Central Florida BJJ competitors are the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF), Newbreed, and the North American Grappling Association (NAGA). NAGA and Newbreed are "minor" circuits and come to Central Florida roughly every 3 or 4 months. IBJJF is a "major" circuit and rarely is held in Orlando. IBJJF tournaments are more often located in South Florida. The IBJJF Miami and Boca Raton Opens are the most popular circuits for most competitors. Tournaments are segmented by belt rank, weight, gender, and age. Each circuit has its own rules, criteria, and point system, which you can find more on below. Or give us a call; our staff would love to talk about them with you!

There are plenty of opportunities for any student to compete in competitive Jiu-Jitsu if they desire. We have our full schedule on our website, including open mat sessions, which are a great opportunity to train with other BJJ athletes and discuss upcoming competitions. If you are interested in local competitions in the Altamonte Springs area, call us or stop by for a free week trial in our gym!
